Department of Biotechnology
1. Goals/Objectives of Department:-
The department was established in 2008 and offers UG courses. Biotechnology is the research-oriented science including a fusion of biology and technology. The Department tries to achieve the overall goals and objectives of the college and also focuses on the following special departmental objectives:-
- To impart basic knowledge and skills of various aspects of biotechnology
- To train the students for challenging careers in the biotechnology and lay a strong foundation for higher study and research in this subject for industrial need and also to pursue further education.
- To inculcate entrepreneurship among the students so as to start their own ventures in the field of biotechnology.
- To provide its students with an education that establishes a strong foundation and appreciation for understanding rapid development in the advancing field of Biotechnology.
- To provide an intensive and in-depth learning and to develop technical and critical thinking skills necessary for success in the field of biotechnology.
- Students develop awareness & knowledge of different topics of biotechnology through lectures and practical classes.
- To train the students to take up wide variety of roles like researchers, scientists, consultants, entrepreneurs, academicians, industry leader and policy.
- To impart knowledge in practical and conceptual skills in molecular cell biology.
2. Future Career Prospects:-
Biotechnology is an applied science which has an impact on a number of sectors and disciplines which aims at applying various techniques for the betterment of mankind. This includes genetic engineering, tissue culture, microbial technology, environmental biotechnology, industrial biotechnology, bioinformatics and so on. The bio-technology Industry is constantly growing and in the past 10 years, human resources in the field have grown by 90%. Today, Indian biotech sector comprises of more than 280 companies and 180 bio suppliers, generating revenues of about US$ 1.5 billion. Indian biotech industry comprises of clinical research, new drug discovery, bioinformatics, R&D, biopharmaceuticals etc.
Bio-tech industry has 37.42% growth rate per annum. As there is increasing popularity and explosive growth, there are plenty of opportunities available in Biotechnology field. One can be a Research Scientist, Teacher, Marketing manager, Bioinformists, Quality Control Officer or Production in-charge in the Food, Chemical and Pharmaceutical industry, Analyst (Venture-Capitalist)Environmental / Safety Specialist . A career in Biotechnology field hence shall be highly successful and rewarding. The main job sectors are-
