Library
From the history of F.C. College it is observed that since its inception, members of the Trust Society knew the value of a library in the college. When the college was in Lahore, its library was well equipped. From the sources we came to know that the college, when started in 1935 at Lahore had 5000 books in the library by the year 1945-46.
In 1954, when the college was re-established in Hisar, it was resolved in the very first meeting of local governing body that books worth Rs. 500/- be purchased for the library. In a country like India where libraries were set up years after the establishment of universities, it is heartening to note that since the inception of the college, the members of the governing body, being educationists in the real sense of the word, understood the importance of library in an educational institution.
Originally, the library was set up in a small room. Keeping in view the rising number of users, it was shifted to new library building in May 2001. A separate, independent building for a library and that also in an undergraduate (now a post graduate) college is very rare in India. At present we have 39686 books in the library, which shows that the tradition of adding about 700-800 books every year is still maintained. Users can access latest information from library’s blog.
We are using LS Ease (Libsys) software in our library. There is one server and five terminals. Online Public Access catalogue is available for the readers. Our library is first in Haryana where books are issued through smart card. Library is also a member of DELNET through which books can be made available to the students by Inter Library Loan through other libraries which are linked to DELNET. Presently 5916 libraries are members of DELNET. College library is also member of N-List (Natural Library Information Service Technology). Students and staff can be benefitted by reading any online journals and periodicals through N-List
Library and education are complementary to each other. So library is an essential part of an educational institute. Our college library is fully computerised and performs its services effectively. There are more than 40600 books available on different subjects. It provides 76 monthly magazines, 18 Journals and 18 daily newspapers regularly to its readers. It provides a neat and clean, well-furnished reading room to its readers with suitable environment and pin drop silence.
